The name: The Vostok ("East") program was the first Soviet human space mission project that succeeded, for the first time in history, in bringing a man into space. On April 12, 1961, cosmonaut Jurij Alekseevič Gagarin became, aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft, the first human being to orbit the Earth.

 

The correct pronunciation is Vostòk. We prefer Vòstok
